It is not so surprising to see the UK in the top 20 of our TSDI ranking. Indeed with an efflorescent tourism activity (10.9% of the GDP comes from tourism and travel in 2018) and very good human indicators, Great Britain and Northern Ireland are not to be pitied. The environmental factor is in order as well. Above average values for air and water quality, rurality and protected areas but mostly the decrease of their CO2 emissions over the years. UK is trying its best to reach the goals fixed during the Climate Change Act (2008). In this matter we can measure a 38% loss in CO2 emissions since the 90s and a greater decrease to come with the fact that UK’s remaining coal use is phased out by 2025.
